There are a wide variety of flooring types out there available for the average homeowner. Sometimes however deciding on what type of flooring to use for a home is not an easy business. There are a number of considerations to be made with cost, appearance and durability to name a few. Here’s a brief discussion on some of the common floor types.
The most popular among flooring types is probably hardwood flooring. Hardwood is also known as the longest lasting. Using hardwood on your home’s floors can increase the overall value of your home. Hardwood definitely has an elegance to it that’s why it’s popularity hasn’t waned over time.
The downside with hardwood is that it is relatively expensive in comparison to other flooring types. Plus it is susceptible to damage, scratches and moisture can really lower the quality of hardwood flooring.
Another commonly used flooring type is ceramic flooring. Ceramic tiles are extremely tough and long lasting. These hardly ever need replacing because they are very durable. It can survive heavy traffic and pets with ease.
The problem with ceramic flooring is that in comparison to other flooring types it is difficult to install and it’s also pretty expensive. They also tend to be much colder hence requiring rugs or some radiant heating equipment.
Also a commonly used type of flooring is laminate flooring. This type of flooring is easy to install and is relatively cheap in comparison to ceramic and hardwood floors. It can be made to look like wood, stone or tile. It is also relatively easy to maintain and can last up to 25 years. The only problem with laminate flooring is that it can create a hollow sound when stepped on if installed incorrectly, but that’s easily remedied with the right floor underlayment.
Vinyl is also a relatively popular flooring type. It comes in practically every imaginable color and design. It can be bought as tiles or sheets. Vinyl floors are cheap and are easy to maintain they can also be installed in practically any room in the house. The only downside to it is that it isn’t very durable, but then again it’s easily replaced.
Those were a few of the common flooring types available on the market today. Hopefully this was useful in your search for a flooring type for your home.
